Marabou troubles

I must have the wrong "kind" of marabou. I'm trying to tie intruder type flies, and palmering isn't working. The quill seems too thick to wrap. What should I be working with?

That's good to know. I've noticed the quality of marabou blood quill plums is all over the board. When I tie my Turbo Leech and WB patterns, I use the butt end of a feather to wrap forward and create the body so a thin quill is desirable. ... and sometimes, those are danged hard to find.

Can't say I've tried wrapping any of the butt ends. All those just end up hastily tied to a hook for rock fishing off the jetty. Least picky fishery I've ever experienced.
