Over the last few weeks i've taken to tying in hand i.e. no vise, no bobbin, no tools save for wax, scissors and a bodkin.
Here is a smattering of what i've tied so far. Its been fun. I think the last fly i tied in a vise was in 2013!!

Gray Ghost size 1 8xl (with a few SBS photos for good measure) This one is tied on an antique Allcock 2811, the exact hook Carrie Stevens used for her flies. The wing assembly in the brighter pictures was removed and replaced with a better wing for the last picture. All done in hand without a vise or bobbin. All the wings on the streamers were preassembled 'Stevens' Style'

Those are fantastic, Eunan !!! I'm still in awe of you guy's that can do that in hand, I used too watch Harry Lemire do it and thought it
was so cool !!! It's good to see some folks going this way to keep it alive, might have to try it myself sometime.

Are you still using the same wax as the stick you gave me ?? It's great stuff, I use it all the time and it's not even half gone, thanks again !!!

    Yikes! These are great!

Honestly I like these more than a perfectly tied fly. Perfection is all well and good and a worthwhile pursuit but these have a bit more humanity in them.

So ...you trying to put tying vise companies out of business or what? :D

I'm not sure how you manage to tie such complicated flies without stabbing your fingers with the hook point!
