I hit the hole across from the lower hatchery using my spey with a medium sink tip and a purple tube fly with a red flash tied on it. Something hit it right at daybreak and took off down stream and I never saw it. It woke me right up! Anyways the river has great color, all the debris is washed out of it due to the rain recently and the moldy's are gone. I don't know if it was an early winter fish or a beaver but it nailed it hard and it was freakin awesome! I'm thinkin it's almost crunch time.:hmmm::thumb:

    Jim,

That was probably the Kalama sasquatch. It hits hard, runs fast, and no one has ever landed it. And it's only hooked during low light periods, like daybreak or dusk. So that was most likely it. Count yourself among the lucky few.

In Forks it would be classified as a vampire.

I thought it might be a submerged UFO as well, either way it was a good way start the day out even if I didn't see it or bring it to hand. F--kin river drives me nuts though

There were still a lot of pre-spawn Coho rolling around when I hit the river at midnight Halloween for the annual zombie-fest. Rivers definitely looking good after the rain though.

The movie was actually filmed in Kalama, so maybe it was a vampire!

It was filmed in BC. Only reason I know is because of my wife's friend that is obsessed with it. She went up there to stalk the cast.

Sorry to break your heart Evan, the first movie was filmed in Kalama. The only reason I know this is that I was bred and born in Kalama, its not very often a movie gets filmed there so its big news. I was at the gym while they painted it to match "forks", the senior parking lot was were the movie started. Our wrestling room was also converted for a prop set. Some of my teachers were in the movie, and their kids. My mother still works for the school and I constantly hear about the details and I think my Gf wishes I was a vampire. I just dont get it.

After the first movie they took digital measurments and layouts of all our structures and rebuilt all the stuff in BC, why, I have no idea

I would love to come fish the Kalama one of these days. Ill buy lunch if someone shows me around, or I will bring you some flies.

As for the kalama sasquatch, it could have been mr. steelface, or a monster coho. Any coho over 12lbs will fight like a damn kayaker paddling downstream from you.

You will find a few bright coho, steelhead and even chinook in the river as late as December not to mention recycled older steelhead. As for good river conditions, well that is another story, though it was in descent shape today for a float.
