Lately, I've been fishing the clackamas. My plans to fish the lower d 10 days or so ago were ruined by the weather, but I might make a trip out there towards the end of the month when I'm back in town, might do the klickitat instead depending on conditions.

In the winter I fish any number of coastal rivers but gravitate towards the Wilson for no reason other than I think it's nice out there. I also fish the Wilson in the summer for src.

  2. Ill be on the klick i think the sunday 22nd

LOL. Instead of giving in to my urge to see if anything here is worth reading, I'll just refrain from checking in on your needs for public displays of bromance. Carry on and don’t mind me

    Daniel,

525 does seem heavy for a 7 wt, but then I tend to prefer lines on the lighter side. I use a 450 on my 7 wt, but it's not uncommon for others to like around 500 gr. If you can comfortably throw the 525 on that rod, then it's right for you.

BTW, back to useful info regarding "how to actually catch a f'n steelhead," this rainstorm is exactly the thing that will freshen up the rivers. If they are up and muddy, then as they begin to drop and clear is precisely the time to find an active fish. Unlike all those almost wasted days spent casting to non-existent or dour fish in low, clear water.

I am not at home right now, but I am sure my rod said that it is rated from 490-570. I may be wrong but I know I am not off by much. I did not make it into the local fly shop yet but the guys at PFF want me to come in because they say they have a kit that will dial in my rod to a Skagit Max head. If it turns out that we are way off then I will simply just buy another head. Really not a big deal.

Just found out that I am indeed off Saturday and Sunday. By the forcast on the flows it looks like the water will be on its way down this weekend. I am headed out both days. If it is muddy saturday I dont care. I will just look at it as a day to simply practice my spey casting and presentation.

Yeah, but every word I read online I read out loud, so I heard it too. Easy mistake to make.

If it's high and/or muddy fish the water near the bank.

Yeah I have heard that. Joe Ewing said that when the water is muddy the fish can already be behind you by the time you cannot see your shoes in the water.
