Advice on cleaning/polishing/refinishing an Ocean 77 reel

    Hey there.

    Picked up a vintage Ocean 77 on craigslist a while ago and am now getting around to cleaning it up.

    Fully functional with great sounding clicker, just need advice on what to clean it with and polish it up with

    How's the paint? Some reels I remove the crappy paint with steel wool and fish as is, others I removed the paint, used a aluminum etching primer, painted then clear coated. There's been several posts on this including one painting an OC reel.

    Bill Archuleta uses Simple green to clean reels and Lubriplate for grease.

    I have sent some old reels to a guy in Albany, New York for cleaning and operational fixes. He charges $25 for the job and is pretty quick with the return. Tom White Rod and Reel Restoration. He's on the web.
