You should consider talking to Ed and Scott at the Confluence fly shop (360.312.7978) . They're down on the waterfront, and they do on-the-river demos/clinics as well. Give them a call if you want to get some of the basics down. (I assume you are in B'ham)

Everyone I have spoke with likes this rod. A board member is about done building this rod for me now, and I am looking forward to my first test drive!

I bet you will like it for years.

I happen to have a couple of Allen Olympic rods and I don't mind giving instruction on basic casting.

    Thanks,

I'd really like to see some of your stuff in my local shops (PSFC & GHFS).

I've got that rod and really like it so far. I'm a total noob at spey casting, but I've enjoyed learning with it.

Since you are in Bellingham, I'd suggest taking the advice above and calling Ed and Scott at Confluence. They are great guys.

Evan is also a great guy and the Allen rods are fine. I don't have the 7wt, but I've got a 6 and a 4 that I enjoy.
