I posted earlier that I had purchased a Scadden Assault XXX at the show. I was looking for a raft that was light enough that I could throw it on the back of the pick up and store it on the ceiling of my garage. I was not at all comfortable with the pin style oars Dave has on the Assault as I plan on fishing the penninsula and could just see the oar lock breaking off. I decieded that I would get the boat and retro fit it too meet my needs yet still be light enough to move around easily. I wanted to keep the weight at less than 100lbs. I think i accomplished this with a small frame from NRS. I did upgrade the oars to Daves Carbon fiber oars. I can still pick it up and also hoist it up to the ceiling. I have a rear seat and anchor system that i have not installed yet from NRS as well. Now i just need to go take it down a river. Cool boat, thanks for sharing. It's always interesting to see how guys choose to customize their craft.
Looks like a very well-done set-up. Be sure to let us know how it goes after you take her out. Btw, in the photos, there is another boat in the garage. I am curious what brand, model, and length it is. Thumbs up on a garage full of watercraft!
Cant tell from the NRS site, but is there any hardware attached underneath the wood, or is it all smooth underneath?
THey have a flush mounted bolt socket on the underside of the plywood that you screw a long bolt in from the Aluminum frame into. There is also an aluminum tray that sits between the tubbe and the Marine grade plywood. Its pretty slick.
I think that's the first time i've seen an NRS frame on a Scadden frameless toon. It looks great, good color bounce too. I think you could use a gas motor on that setup if you wanted to. Please keep us informed of how she runs. Nice work.
I've loved my 2 NFO Renegades for 4 years, and just ordered an Assault XXX to use as a 2-adult day drift boat, or 1-person mutli-day cargo boat. Scarboo, would love to see the pics of your rowing/fishing frame, but it looks like the original attachments at the top of this thread are no longer available. Would you mind reposting? Have you had it on the water? Any more thoughts? Thanks..
I am embarrased to say that i have not taken the Maiden Voyage yet. I had a buddy that was going to go on the Yakima with me but the weather was Sh!t and then he went on Vacation. I think I am going to take it to a lake just to see how it rows. I keep adding to it. I ordered the NRS Motor mount and I bought a Heavy duty rubber mat for the front floor. They sould arrive any day. SCARBOO
Looks great - some clever thinking there. I'll be sure to post some of my Assault XXX in action soon...
Hey Scarboo, can you re-post the picture of your modifications? seems the links are broken now (due to the site rebuild, perhaps?). Thanks
