Take the color of the lake trout? in HIS photo, and the color of the one in YOUR photo.... Then take my experience (I've NEVER seen a lake trout in my life....) And go what I had to go off, and YES It looked like a weird Walleye to me... :D

ALASKA??? You guy's posting your catches is like showing my 20 year old boy a Megan Foxx poster... It's just rude! :D ;)

In this photo note the rear hand. Just in front of it is the adipose fin of the lake trout. This one is darker in coloration than the photo comparison, but still great. If you check your sport fishing regulations on page 37 you will see a picture of a lake trout and on page 38 a walleye. Note there are diffrences besides just color. Body shape, jaw shape, and most notably to my inexperienced eye the fins between the two. Note differences in the caudal to pectoral fin gaps, ray diffrences in the dorsals and huge difference in the adipose fins (sorry if I have some of the names butchered). Fish ID like bug ID can be tough and improving skills in that regard has always been fun for me. As for the fish porn, I love it, the more the merrier! For those that don't they can avoid threads with the paperclip icon or just look away!

Some more fish porn, albeit of a slightly necrophiliac nature.

~36", 20-25lb chum I found in the Snohomish yesterday. Next to a regular-sized pink (minus head) for comparison. Vertical stripes are barely visible in the photo.

Ha I been the one holding the fish, I would have definitely been able to tell it wasn't a walleye... :)

When to the Chum's hit thick in the puget sound? November?

Based on the number of fish ID questions you've posted recently, I think you need to stop trying to rely so much on color. There's much more to making positive ID's than color. Look at the shape of the body, mouth, fins, whether they're soft or spiny rays in the fins, scale size, etc.

Like Mumbles said, the basic shape of the fish in that photo should have told you it was a salmonid. From there, the light spots on a dark background narrow it down to a char species. Since it's definitely not a brook trout, dolly varden, bull trout, or arctic char, lake trout is about all that's left. After awhile, you won't have to go through this process and you'll be able to just look at a fish and know what it is without thinking.

I've been watching the creek snaggers practice their flossing on the pinks. They must be getting ready for the chum run. I can't believe people are eating these fish...

CLO, I know what you mean. I saw a couple guys hauling out two limits of pinks off the Sky on Sunday. Needless to say, these fish had been in the river a while :eek::eek: I'm surprised they stayed on the stick they were carrying them out on without just falling apart!

I was thinking silver when I hooked in to something real big and never saw on the Sky last Saturday but after a very reliable report from a friend it appears there are a few early chummy arrivals.

Since I still have only had one silver this year that's where the attention will be but if I won't be disappointed at all with a knock down drag out with one of the big dawgs.
