I am hoping to get out to Rattlesnake tomorrow afternoon. I hope to leave Ballard or Greenlake some time around 3 or 4, and fish until they close the park. If anyone wants to chip in for gas, I am happy to drive.
I'll probably be out that way tomorrow Pieter. We'll look for you for sure. I'm sure the crowds will be plenty and the enforcement stiff as usual. I hope everyone enjoys the 3-day weekend. Should be a fun day, and the weather is suppose to jump out of the low 50's for a change. If you make it that way give me a gingle on my cell phone...be fun to meet you guys. It's been a fun year out there so far :thumb: rsfg *Note* - right now it is raining at RS with temps stuck in the upper 40's with a light N wind at 8G12.
Fishing was great today!! Not many on the water!! 3 poachers never called in...largest 20" rest 12-15" -- midges, chronomids & pheasant tails fished shallow. rsfg
I was out there Friday evening as well. Did pretty good on an olive matuka and bugger. RSFG, what were you fishing out of?
Outcast Fish Cat 4 Blue Fly Tube with white lettering, how about youreslf? I saw someone hook a really, really large fish over by the 3 poachers. I let that one slide...you see them in that far corner? :hmmm:
i saw a couple of groups fishing from shore on both sides of the lake....not sure if they were poaching or not... I was kicking around in a green outcast pontoon, throwing a full sink line with a 10.5 foot rod. I'll look for you the next time i am out there...
Sounds good. Yeah, one good group of poachers today. All bait plunkers (3). They hadn't caught one fish so I let them be. One guy was wearing a bright red parka, the rest were just in lawn chairs sipping beers, rods on the ground, etc. What ended up being your largest fish to toon? Towards 7pm the fish began to rise up within the water column. Never stayed long enough to see how it was around 8pm. One guy told me he caught real nice fish at 7:45...wish I would have stayed! RSFG.
Biggest was a 16 incher that put a hell of a bend in the 3 wt. they were hitting buggers like a ton of bricks from around 7;30- 9:00 pm. I'll be out there tomorrow morning with my father in law in a green canoe. stop by and say high if you are out. what time does the gate open??
Will do. I believe the gate opens promptly at 5AM and closes at 9PM. Someone correct me if I am wrong with the 5AM. Maybe I will see you out there! Tight Lines, RSFG. :thumb:
Last weekend the gate opened at 5:30 although the sun had been up for a while so maybe they are opening it earlier now. I'm going to try to hit it tomorrow evening. Blue Buck's Bag. Say hi if you see me.
Sweet! :beer2:Yeah, someday I show up at 5AM and it is open and other days not until 5:15AM, etc. I'll have to do find out for sure from the Ranger next time! RSFG.
Fished RS yesterday, not as many fisherman as I expected for a holiday weekend, probably the weather forecast. Cloudy, cool with a breeze, great fishing weather. The fish thought so as well, they were high in the water column and feeding steadily. Started with a leech pattern and soon learned the fish weren't interested in that profile so changed up to the Olive Willy. Bingo. Lost count after a couple dozen fish. Went deeper in search for a few big ones, pulled up a couple of 14"s but nothing more. If I'd stay until closing would have fared better with the larger fish but I was doing well enough. The sun peeked out for a bit around 5 or 6 pm which kicked the fishing up a notch for awhile. Met some nice folks out on the water. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The backside of the lake provided a little dryfly action during late afternoon. A few fellas were banging them on caddis and general emergers. No real hatch of any kind, a few chironos here and there. Off and on the fish were surface oriented in certain parts of the lake which made for a fun game. Overall, a good day at RS. I'm thinking possibly an 8' x 10' floating dock with electric motor. BBQ fired up, cooking and serving BBQ chicken to those out on the water, glurg a little Martinelli's to wash it down with. Anyone interested?
iagree Get that floating dock with a tent on it, make it a permanent moving device all summer long. 3 dudes, 3 ladies, 6 fly rods... Perhaps even sell beers off that thing to willing and legal aged anglers...a floating bar of sorts on Rattlesnake! I will note at Rattlesnake that ya'll leave way too early. Very few anglers have been fishing this lake compared to years past probably due to high fuel prices. Stick around for some late night fun. The biguns take nymphs beginning a few hours before the onset, and continue taking them during and after the hatch. Callibaetis nymphs are killer before the hatch, and callibaetis cripples/flashbacks just rock. Callibaetis in tan, very small right now at Rattlesnake. Pulling buggers/leeches all day is fine, but come 3pm switch it up and stay longer than 7pm if time allows! Tight Lines, RSFG
