I finally saw backswimmers in a lake today and it appeared trout like them. It also appeared they liked Ira's "barrel bug" as I caught a couple of trout on them lost a couple, missed a couple and had one break off.

A very nice outing, backswimmers spotted and no ticks or snakes spotted.

I was out the day before at Quincy Lake and was surprised to see the fish so close to shore. A guy with a bobber and fly was doing quite well casting from the boat launch. I was anchored up a couple hundred yards from the launch and had fish hitting a Gorman style bloodworm, a green chronie pupa and again, Ira's barrel bug. Bad thing is the one that was working on Wednesday was the one broken off on Thursday.

Also a nice outing and both days were low wind days.

You only had the one pattern? You do know that in the world of flyfishing that is considered a sign of insanity! :)

The basic rule: if you only have one of a specific fly pattern, it will be the only pattern that will catch fish and you will lose it.

Like Gene says, don't ever, ever get/tie just one of something. Never.

I had others in different and slightly different colors, but only one of that particular color and hook size. I lost the blackish red one on the first cast. The orangish black one is the one that caught the rest of the fish.

Today is very windy and not suited for fishing.

Ha. The way I tie flies, they're all just one of something... :)
