We hit it at the tail end, but the first night and second morning were epic! The stone flies made it look like it was snowing at the upper end, and while fishing the browns were sucking the flies off the wall so high they were leaving water marks on the rock face!

Caught this nice one the first night

Sweet times all around. The water was at 270 cfs so it was a little lower than usual. We mixed things up a bit and brought along a packraft in addition to the two 6-man rafts to goof off in. I rolled the packraft in the middle of Cable Rapids, it was a hoot!

If you ever get the chance to float the black gorge, don't pass it up!

Do you use an outfitter? Who? Looks fun as heck.

No, outfitters are really pricey for this trip. My friend's family has been floating this trip for years so we do it ourselves. Yes, fun as heck is an understatement. If you do want an outfitter, GRE is the biggest down there. That, or BCA.
