Anyone know how this lake is fishing this spring? Other lakes in the area?? Heading over in about a week or so and going to hit a few differnet lakes in the area. How about the other Blue near Wanacutt? Chopaka or is it too early? Thanks, Ken

Blue (Sinlahekin) is fishing reasonably well. Four friends and I fished it on Thursday, May 3 for around 5-6 hours. I caught and released 46 fish, mostly rainbows with a rare brown. My friends caught anywhere from around 25 fish to over 60 fish. We are all pretty experienced and dedicated stillwater fishermen, and some of us have had a number of 50-75 fish days on Blue in the past. We caught alot of 14-16 inch rainbows and some smaller fish down to 12 inches or so. My biggest rainbow was 18 inches, my biggest brown was 17 inches. I didn't think that they were all that scrappy. We fished 3 lakes in 3 days, and the fish fought harder in both of the other lakes. I felt that the fish were a little on the skinny side. The water level in the lake is quite high right now, and it is no problem to go in and out of the pothole at the bottom if you are so inclined. I personally think that the lake is being overstocked, and has been since it was rotenoned. The fish size has never come back to what it was before the treatment. Probably my best year on that lake was the season before they killed everything in the lake. The numbers of fish and the fish size were both outstanding that year. In summary, the catch rate is good, the fish are ho-hum.

I agree. When I fished it for a few days last fall, all of the bows were in the 12-16 inch range and the browns were in the 15-18 inch range. When I was there, it seemed the browns outnumbered the bows, but I was mainly fishing streamers in the weeds. The browns I did get in the 17-18 inch range looked to be fairly older, too. With the number of fish we caught, I expected to get into at least one or two that were bigger. Ordinarily, I wouldn't like to hype a lake like this on the internet, but it might actually benefit from a little more pressure.

We fished the Lahotan Blue last week, see Islander's report. Not sure if you meant that Blue or the other Blue.

I fished Blue over the weekend and wasn't overly impressed with it. Fish were up to 15 inches. Friday night appeared the best fishing with it tapering off down to a slow Sunday. The best part was the ruffed grouse alarm clock with the drumming every morning.

I'm out of state dealing with a family health issue, but I will look it up in my fishing logs when I get home next week.
