Indeed they are. I was in PA yesterday and noticed that on their billboard.

I went to Zinzanni a couple of months ago and they were selling the RW Triploid rainbow as "Columbia River Stellhead". I had a long back-and-forth in email about what these fish actually are. This culminated in the GM coming down on his day off to talk with me in person when I came to see the show. When the current show closes in a few days, the menu will change, and he assured me the "steelhead" won't return to the menu. Made me feel good I took the time.

I don't see that it is wild steelhead. I don't see steelhead on their web site specials or menu link. Anyone local able to confirm that it is wild steelhead and not the net pen triploids? Did I miss it on their site pages or that facebook link posted?

Dude....its in PA....to me they hold the burden of proof to say it's not.

BTW....check out www.stopeatingwildsteelhead.com as they have thrown some fuel on the fire

Keep in mind PA Steelies are not ESA listed. Their native stocks are in good shape, (along with most of the Great Lakes stock), inlike those of the PNW.

It surely does not condone serving them or eating them, but should be noted their stocks are not in danger (currently).

You're right, there'd be no conservation issue surrounding eating Great Lakes rainbows.....However, the link is referring to PA, as in Port Angeles, not as in the state (where there are no 'native' steelhead runs).

You're a long ways off on the stocks we're talking about. And just because Olympic Peninsula steelhead are not ESA listed, does not mean their stocks are self-sustaining, harvestable populations.

Josh, I know it is PA as in Port Angeles, Clallam County, WA. That is why I checked their web site speicals and menu. No steelhead listed there. Besides the facebook post, my question still stands. In the legal world it is innocent until proven guilty with the burden of proof on the prosectution, not on the defense. I don't know what they are serving, where it is from or what their story is...yet. Does anyone else have any confirmed contact response or information?

Thanks Evan. I did not have that information at 11pm yesterday. Those wild fish are local? Perhaps from the same river that supplies our other distribution company friends?

I couldn't get the exact river they came from... But some locals told me they're fairly certain they're Quillayute fish, bycatch from the spring chinook fishery.

A post on their Facebook page says it is columbia river steelhead. so it most likely is rufus woods stock.

Sent an email to the contact mailbox last night. Nothing back from them today. I asked about the source of their fish and if they are wild or farmed.

I talked to my buddy who works there. He's unsure if they're wild or not. He just said some native guy brings them the fish. Has for years.
