A co-worker said he was looking in the Cedar River yesterday and saw a bunch of Salmon coming up the river. I was puzzled. Are there spring salmon in the Cedar River? Could they be Kings? I am going to go look for myself today. I know the river is closed to all fishing but it would be interesting if there were Kings going up the river now. If the Cedar ever gets healthy enough to open again, I hope they make it a catch and release only river.

There are not any known spring chinook in the Cedar River, or other Lake WA/Lake Sammamish tribs. The Cedar River does have a wild run of steelhead that would be getting ready to spawn. Could that be what your buddy saw?

You are right, I went and looked for myself on my way to work this morning. They are suckers and there are plenty of them!
