Hey guys. Anyone been to Castle Lake fairly recently?

The Forest Service website has it listed as "Unreachable" but I have to wonder if that is current.

    http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/f...le Lake Trail#221 and Castle Ridge Trail#216G

It seems pretty clear from satellite imagery and the trail maps what my two options are for reaching the lake, assuming that the roads are open.

I'm tentatively planning on packing in for the weekend with light camping gear and a float tube.

Any info on current state of things and/or other considerations would be much appreciated.

Forget it. One phone call and I learned that all the Weyerhauser roads up there are currently gated.

    D'oh!

Google "lock bumping". That'll get you in there.

Jim Ive wanted to fish Castle Lake for quite some time now. If you ever want a partner in crime to get there count me in. I know its about 12 miles of logging roads then a half mile hike. I didnt know about the gates. Did they say if they open them or if they are just permanently closed?

I didn't ask. I think they're open at times though. While planning I searched some posts on here and someone was in there last year. Maybe next year...
