Or, in my case, because it offers someone else the joy of catching this fish another day. In systems like the Cowlitz, this makes sense... hell, even the WDFW hauls from the hatchery and recycles them.

I've fished with Steve (good guide and person) and do support his C&R policy.

I fished with Mike Sturza on Tuesday. I called him on Monday, and fortunately he was open. We fished from Barrier Dam to Blue Creek from his drift boat. He had received a report that Tacoma Power would be doing some work on the dam which would require dropping the river level basically in half, down to 2600cfs. That is why Mike opted for the drift boat rather than the sled. We stopped and swung flies on many great looking runs, but I was not allowed any hookups from the steelhead gods this day. Mike is a good guy, and like previously mentioned, he knows every rock, slot, nook, cranny and crevice of that river. As the morning progressed, I kept watching for new rocks to appear due to the decrease in flow, but it never happened. I fished pretty hard from 6:00 to 4:00 and he was willing to keep going. He really wanted to put me on fish. I would reccommend Mike for his guide services. He is knowledgeable, works hard and his fee is very reasonable.

And, most importantly, I neglected to add that I had a great time and really enjoyed the day. I got the opportunity to work on my spey casting skills. A lot. Well, except for the sunburn. Yeah... the sunburn. My ears are still peeling. Forgot the sun screen....

Rod, I'm glad you feel that way about your experience. Sometimes the fish simply are not biting. It's not the guide's fault.

    Evan,

When it comes to hatchery fish, the gloves come off. They are put in the system to be removed, by us.

Yes. I am a fly guide that loves to fish with gear. ~gaspe~

I don't care what you use as long as it is legal.

It's always the guides fault. Damned guides. I should get a fish every cast. Man, I'm tired of the "they're just not biting" excuse. You guys are sounding like Hank Patterson now. ;)

Mike Sturza! I went out with him yesterday and landed my first one ever. I have been Steelheading for about 16 months with nothing. He was a great guide and will definitely go with him again. Highly recommend....
