Hey everyone, I had the pleasure of staying in Deception Pass Park over this last week and wow! That park is very unique and beautiful. My friend and I fished the lake for a few days here and there. At times the wind made the lake too difficult to fish. Although I did manage to get a couple nice bows from the rocks throwing wooly buggers in black. A nice big 19" carryover was the highlight. I didnt have my cam on me at the time. Fish were rising to mosquitos and another small white bug I didnt recognize. The sparrows were over the lake in the hundreds snatching bugs as well. I didnt bother with my fish cat or my pontoon boat. The wind there can be viscous and I doubt I would be able to out row it. There is a very calm area of the lake on the far west side in a cove that is shielded from the wind. I was told it was the best fishing area and many browns are pulled from it. Seems that lake doesnt get much pressure. Thanks guys and good luck.

Thanks for the report and pictures. Most likely the birds and fish were eating midges ( chironomids) which are often mistaken for Mosquitos, but he'll I wasn't there.

Every time I think I'm going to try the lake, I can't make it pass Pass.

Great report Thomas, glad to hear you got into some fish. Cranberry is really a pretty good fishing lake. From now on through the summer it will get lots of activity, but in the fall and spring there is very little pressure and some quality fish. On of the guys in our local fly club use to get some huge browns out of there in the winter.

I was hoping to get a Brown from shore but it wasnt happening. Without a boat and a pretty strong trolling motor you cant make it back against the wind. The wind coming in from the coast creates a constant current on the lake.
