My wife and I traveled to Southern California during the holidays to visit family. We had a wonderful time but it's great to be home in Washington. I visited a good fly shop in Fullerton and bought some fly tying materials. One of the items was a patch of yellow deer hair for spinning. The hair is beautiful with minimal underfur and it spins nicely. The problem is that it has a static electric charge and when trimmed it sticks to everything. The problem is so bad that the hair is very difficult to use. The trimmings stick to the razor blade, scissors, fingers, cloths, the fly and make a mess.
Does anyone have any suggestions to take the charge out of this hair?
Thanks,
Ray
Thanks for the suggestions. The spent dryer sheets improve the situation somewhat but it is still messy. I need to use the sheets on my bobbin, hands, razor blade, scissors, whip finisher for each fly. The only good news is that I only tie a few of these streamers at a time. I'll continue trying the other suggestions although I don't have a humidifier, I may take the patch with me into the shower....
Thanks again
sponge cup from office/drafting supply store, moist paper towel in a bowl or equivalent
dampen the sponge then dampen your fingers while handling materials. works great with fly away marabou
