So I went out for my first day of deer hunting. and at 8 am, shot my first buck! nice whitetail... and with my 30/30, he ran maybe 15 yards before dropping. I love the 30/30 I personally feel it is the perfect deer caliber. I hunted Iron sites as well. which worked out alright because the buck was 50 yards away. maybe.
    It was awesome

Good gun....good job! Although outclassed ballistically by many modern calibers, the 30-30 is a great gun....my first three deer were taken with a 30-30....and that was about 55 years ago. Good to know it still works! :thumb:

What brand did you get, Winchester or Marlin?

I will be using one next weekend on the late hunt. It is a second generation Model 94 that was my Dad's, he purchased it in 1968 and this was his first buck with it in 1969, I was 11 or 12 in the picture. Still shoots the lights out at 100+ yards.
