Well, now I am confused. I though the fly was white, but Utube shows it with peacock and red. that looks more like the adult fly to me. My version is a white color and shaped like a grub, so maybe I have misnamed it. Anyway the one I have experience with is all white with just a black rib. When I first heard it referred to as a Spruce Fly Nymph, I thought that was odd. Hence this thread. Maybe what I in my ignorance am calling a spruce fly nymph, in reality is a Grub?
A streamer called the Spruce Fly, was developed by brothers Cap and Milo Godfrey in Oregon back in 1918. It became a favorite (and remains so) all up and down the coast for sea-run cutthroat. I, apparently like many others here, have never heard of a Spruce Fly Nymph.
The more I read this thread the more convinced that I am full of BS.
I suspect that the fly I have in mind is more of a white grub or an
imitation of a wax worm. There is a marketing coup for you.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
