Fished Dry Falls from 1pm to 9pm last Thursday and did not get one single bumb - I tried my full arsenal - they were having none of it. Met a great guy on the lake and Tim, you saved my day - enjoyed the company and thanks for the hospitality. I new this was a moody lake, but that was brutal.
Next day fished Beda from 10 to 1pm - different lake - same result! I Suck! Others said it was okay earlier in the morning, but I saw not one fish caught in 3 hours with 13 guys on the lake. I am going to take a 2 week break from fishing and start doing something productive! Like yard work and household chores!
I might take my rowboat out in the sound and fish for Bullhead and Flounder.
We fished a higher up lake over the weekend and found the water temps getting up there - 70-72 degrees. Getting to hot for good survival. Must have been about 90 on Friday. As for this guy, moving away from the east side, quality lakes and looking for cooler waters, or moving water until the fall season kicks in.
That was my thought as I see the skin peeling off my ears! Should have worn a brim instead of a baseball cap! I think the rapid change in water temp puts the fish down.
A good fall-back for that area when the weather gets too hot is Banks Lake for smallmouth. Also lots of carp, but then I have never had success with them.
Dry Falls and Beda can be tough. Next time suggest stop at Blue Lake when thefishing is slow and fish the south end of the lake. You will catch a lot of healthy rb's.
Check out Dusty Lake too.Try fishing DEEP and slow with small flies
It's been 40 years since I lived in Moses Lake but we always found Dry Falls fished best between 12 AM and 5AM. Small Mossys, 22-24s. Looked pretty wierd with a couple of boats out there with Coleman Lamps on the back and guys blind casting to sounds.
Fished it last week before our recent heat wave and water temp was 63. I was on the lake in the morning with a handful of other anglers and most weren't getting a bump, including me. Best was one or two fish netted by one angler. I tried the whole arsenal of depths and flies, only one tug in three hours. Just when getting ready to call it quits put on a fly given to me many years ago and first cast, fish on. From 11:30-12:45, netted about 7 fish; all fat 18-22" bows. I was completely surprised. Next day tried every pattern close to that fly with no success. Tied back on the same pattern from yesterday and again fish on almost immediately. Strangest day of fishing I've had there.
