how was the water level..especially at the launch?
not trying to be a wise ass here.
Assuming I had caught enough fish already, I would switch patterns to see if the success were due to the pattern or due to the presentation-line type, depth, etc.
Or to test another experimental fly pattern, knowing I had the other variables dialed in.
Two different lines, two different patterns, other folks who started doing the same with other bugs, told me enough to know that pattern didn't matter. I unlocked the box early on was all and it did not follow my game plan for the day in the slightest.
I was able to launch my Pram with minimal difficulty.
While fishing at DF, my son lost his fly and I tried to talk to him about putting on the same fly I was using that was catching fish. He declined and picked out a different fly, one I tied that was just one I invented while sitting at the vice. His thought process was we should try a different fly because it might be the next great fly. He is 15 almost 16 and very smart. His fly out caught mine.
If I was fishing alone, I may have tried that. But as my fishing buddy was already trying different patterns and techniques and wasn't doing all that well, I saw no reason to try something else. He was covering other variables.
I was able to put in my pig of a pram (koffler). It floated in 3-4" water.
Did anyone camp at the state park?? Their web site says that they aren't taking reservations until the 15th. Heading that way tomorrow for a few days.
Unless something really unusual occurs, you won't have any problem at all in finding sites at the State Park at that time. At least that's been my experience.
My son and I stayed at the state park, the reason they are not taking reservations is you don't need them. There was only 4 or 5 sites taken and the other 100 or so sites empty. They started a viable rate for all the sites, the most popular spots is the most expensive and the others cheaper depending on how much use it gets. Stop and check the map of the site and get one of the cheaper ones.
me and my 2 FF partners went out on Friday, beautiful day..water temps 52 degrees, caught only a fish in size 16 red chromies, some indicaor guys were having good luck below and right of the observation deck, black woollies, mini leach, green carey special. were the ticket for us 15" -17 inch average, but more in the 15 onch range of which one fought like the dickens, fun day
