Just wondering what others like in tying scissors. I used to have 2 pairs of Ginghers I really liked but my wife or boy or the mysterious lady named "Ida Know"(if you have kids, you probobly have one too) borrowed them.Ive been using some old Dr. Slicks, but trimming deer hair really dulls them. 30 bucks for new Ginghers?(to be stashed) or what do some others like and been good?

I generally use a couple of different ones depending on what I'm tying. I've got an old cheap pair that I use for nothing but cutting wire. I'm using the Anvil Ice Midge, straight blade for the majority of tying, including cutting hair wings for trout flies. These keep a nice sharp edge.

Another set I like for more intricate work is Dr. Slick Tungsten Carbide with Arrow tip:

You might want to look at these for deer hair:

I buy the cheapest pair I can find, Then soon as they get dull I just sharpen them.....even the pricey ones get dull to quick. my 2 cents

I buy mine at the craft/fabric store my wife goes to. Same quality, less than half the price. Fiskars makes several different styles.

I had been using several kinds of Dr. Slick's but not happy with any of them when trying to tie very small patterns (20's and 22's). I bought a pair of Anvils and like them much better. As a side benefit, I like the adjustable finger holes. I always put my scissors down when not cutting because my stubby fingers would not let me rest them on my middle finger while using my hand. I bent the Anvils so they just slide down my middle finger when not in use.

Although I have way too many pairs of scissors the ones I use the most are a pair of Dr. Slick 3 1/2 in. bent scissors. I like them cause I can tie with them in my hand. They are small enough to hold while tying and the finger holes are larger than most small pairs. I have tied many flies with these and have never sharpened them yet. The other pair I like my wife bouhgt me at wal mart and they are curved tungsten scissors. I think they were like 6 bucks and they will cut anything. She got them in the sewing section.

i have a pair of dr slicks that nearly have the golden finish worn off the finger holes that i use to cut mostly everything including wire and are still pretty damn sharp.
