First Attempt at a Roy Christie emerger

    Here's my first attempt at tying a Roy Christie style emerger. This is on a size 18 hook. Hangs very low in the water so you really need to know where the fly is or you'll miss a strike. Floats like a cork if good hackle is used.

    After you've done a couple and get the hang of it, the hackling is really pretty easy.

    Interesting. Reversing it puts the weight of the hook bend/point under the thorax kinda reversing the natural attitude of the fly in the film. Might add a nice cripply effect which goes well with the ruddy thorax color. Nice tie.

    Roy Chirstie is scheduled to tie at the East Idaho Fly Tying Expo in Idaho Falls on April 17 adn 18. An opportunity to talk to and watch the originator of some extemely unique fly patterns in the flesh.
