Well...I did it. I got my first carp on fly. I'm in Austria on foriegn exchange at the moment, and I was lucky enough to have my host family take me fishing yesterday. I went to thier private pond, they all used bait and whatnot, but I refused because I've always wanted to try carp on fly.

It took me a while to go from carp fishing to something more like carp hunting. Anyway, I finally found one mudding near the corner of the pond, I made a rather clumsy stalk and a good cast right in front of it. It paused over where my fly landed, so I figured I'd set the hook. Carp fight like hell. It was a pretty epic battle on a 4 wt. When I got it in it ended up being about 14". Not the biggest in the world, but it was a ton of fun. I have a picture, but I didn't bring my cable for the camera, so that'll have to wait 'till I get back.

Hopefully I can get some Grayling today.

Sounds like a lot of fun. . . We gotta find some carp water to try when you get back.
