Perhaps, unsure if it is on the books in WA or ID yet.

Well stated Mr. Mello. Invest quality hike time with the Mrs and pay attention along the way. That attention will reveal some options for your evening fishing adventure.

I can somewhat understand how his title and then the mention of wife and dog could make him seem undecided, but why do we so often feel the need to give unsolicited marriage advice with our fishing tips?

    Ira,

In many instances marriage advice can be the very best fishing tip. I've read a lot of threads pertaining to the difficulty of mixing fishing interests and marriage or family obligations. Besides, it's entertaining to give advice like Dear Abby.

    Salmo,

I agree if you know the person in question. How well do you know the original poster? If you are not aware of his marital situation the advice may just be annoying to him even though it could be entertaining to the masses.

    Dude,

It's the interwebz. If you are concerned with being offended by what someone writes it's your problem not the writers. The medium is the message.

I love the interwebz excuse for potentially offensive behavior. Whatever we can do to excuse our actions.

Being offended and chastizing people for pecieved bad behavior is the issue. The written word will always caused riffled feathers, because it is a very poor medium. If you look to be offended you will. The vast majority of time people get offended on any chatboard/ website it is their own fault. If you go into it with the possibility of being offended, your gonna get there.

Spotting steelhead can be an art - i too used to climb trees - cliffs - crossed rivers to get a better view or advantage point to look through the boils of runs to see just one fin sometimes . it only makes since that if you can spot a fish and fish it - it ups your chances . we found in upper rivers the fish would be in the softwater tailouts and would not take in the mornings . when the sun would hit the river above the canyon walls about 10 in the morn then the fish would move up to the deeper runs and riffles and take a lot more often . we learned to not even go fishing until 10 o'clock on . in the mornings we would walk the river and spot fish in the tailouts and come back later and fish the deep run of that hole when the fish moved up . we also found that the best fly to use was a steelhead caddis in 6 or 8 depending on how big or fast or clear the water was . also a tied down caddis works great with orange or yellow body , most rivers have some sort of large caddis - october caddis - that the fish see all the way up the river and mostly in the upper reaches . also it is close to imitating a yellow jacket which i think we all know can be a real pain some summers . get a good pair of glasses to be able to see through the surface , my favorite for upper rivers are amber beings the shade from the trees can move all over the holes during the day . another thing that we believe made the fish hit better when the sun got in the canyon was moments of shade to sun hitting the water , making it hard for the steelhead to see the fly from a long distance to move away and all of a sudden being right in their face for a reaction take . but this was in the 70's and 80's and would never work these days ! good luck
