Holo-Spruce

    I have long been a fan of the "Spruce Fly" pattern for Cutthroats. The Holo-Spruce is a variation of that pattern.

    Hook: Mustad 9672 (or equiv) sizes 8-12
    Thread: Wine
    Tail: Peacock Sword
    Body: Lagartun Holographic Braid
    Thorax: Peacock Herl
    Wing: Silver Badger (back to back or splayed)
    Collar: Silver Badger

    I would agree and also say that the most successful body color for me has been red and up to size 2 XXL length. Thanks Jack.

    Yes! However I prefer "Hey Joe" by a Seattle native.

    Jack, how do you make the peacock herl thorax so full? Do you build up the body underneath it with something?

    Hi Richard,
    That Holo-Spruce is a Mustad 9672 Size #10 so it is not a large fly. The thorax is four peacock herls tied in at the tips along with a very fine piece of wire and twisted to form a rope. There is no body or build up under the thorax - just a single layer thread base.
