With quail (plus chuckar, and huns) open for hunting Saturday, I'm heading over to the Okanogan area. I'll hunt the usual haunts around Brewster, Bridgeport and farther north. I was wondering how the bird population fared after such a wet spring. I'm not optimistic but I did hear some good reports around Moses Lake and down by Prosser. Rick

Based on their performance this year, you would probably have a better time bird hunting-even if you didn't see any birds! Rick

From what little I have seen the quail did well. Lots of late/second hatch birds. I have not seen a ton of pheasants, but that seems to be par for the course. I have heard of good chukar numbers as well. I will be working the opening weekend but will be getting out for the pheasant and duck opener. Hope you get into some birds!

I too have noticed a lot of second and third hatches of quail this year.
There will be a lot of little guys on the opener.

A friend has leased a number of circles over near O'Sullivan dam. He tells me he sees quail every time he is out there--I will probably head over next week and will let you know how it goes....

    Same experience as Gary

Lots of late hatches and smaller birds beginning of season. I have been taking 1-2 birds from coveys this year and trying to avoid females. See how they fare late season

Same experience with huns. Have not looked for chukars yet
