I'll send you the special material swap

  1. Iv'e been trying to get an idea for a unique swap and this is what I have come up with.

I recently came into possession of a large patch of javelina hair and wondered what might be some creative uses for it at the tying bench. I got some ideas in an earlier post and tried a few things but now I think I'd like to see what you can come up with.

    Here is what I propose:

I will take 6 tiers as I only have enough hair to send out 6 patches. I already sent some hair to Mike Etgen and Ron Eagle Elk so if they want to join in I will let them. (How about it guys?)

I send you a patch of Javelina hair and you use it in a creative way in a known pattern or create a unique fly using the hair from this wild little southwestern pig. It would be a bonus if the Javelina is the featured material in your creation. Any other materials are fine as long as you include the Javelina in your flies.

You obviouly get to keep the leftover hair.

Once 6 tiers are signed up, I will mail out the material to you. You will have 30 days from the date I mail it to tie your flies and get them back to me. I will pay the outgoing postage, but ask that you provide a little coin for the swapmiester for return postage when I send the finished flies back to you.

I only ask that those serious about completing the swap sign up. While I don't mind sharing the hair, I don't want to waste it. (That's not an unreasonable request is it?)

All of the other standard swap rules apply.

See this post for pictures and a description of the hair: http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/board/showthread.php?t=46741

  7. Warren,

I think I can come up with a fly or two for this swap. I'm in.

  8. I'd like to give it a shot if you still have room.
  9. This is my first swap, count me in if there is room. Should I pm you with name and address?
  10. Welcome to

One slot left ... any takers

as soon as we get the last participant, I'll post some specifice instructions. In the meantime, If you PM me your address, I'll start prepping the Hog Hair.

If we get one more that will mean 9 total flies

  11. I think we have hit a plateau with sign ups so I am going to close the swap with 8.

PLease tie and send back 8 flies and you will get back a complete set.

Here is a list of all of the participants

    Warren Perry
    Mike Etgen
    Ron Eagle Elk

I am going to mail the material out on Saturday 17 May. Please let me know when you get it.

RDL - I still need you to PM me your address.

Sharpshooter, I need a name to go with your address, unless you want me to address the package to your screenname. Just let me know your preference

Flies are due back to me on 20 June 2008 along with a few dollars for return postage.

I will PM you with my address and some other instructions

  12. Pm sent.
  13. Gentlemen,

The javelina hair is packaged, addressed and will go out in this morning’s mail. Please let me know when you have received it.

Flies are due back to me on 20 June.

We have a total of 8 tiers so please send a full set of 8. This will make it a little easier on me when I divide the sets up.

When you mail your flies try to use some sort of crush resistant box in sturdy packaging. Envelopes have been known to fail. It is always a good Idea to put your address on your box just in case. Make sure your box is big enough to handle larger flies than you tie.

Flies should be toe-tagged with the name of your pattern and your WAFF board screen name so we know who tied what. A toe tag is usually just a small strip of paper that you stick on to each fly over the barb so it won’t fall off, if you tie with barbless hooks then tie a small piece of mono on to your fly and tape it to the paper rather then having it slip off the barbless hook.

Please include an self addressed envelope with the proper amount of pre paid postage or a dollar or two to cover return postage.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  14. Warren, I recieved the hair today.:thumb:
  15. i recieved hair today also
  16. got mine. its not quite what i expected. I'm gonna have to think about this for awhile.
Is this a pig you got yourself Warren?
  17. I hope that the unexpected inspires your creativity :)

I did not kill this one. It was taken by one of my co workers

  18. its more like quills than hair, very stiff, but it works well for my design. i have half of them tied up
  19. Hair received. Now the fun begins...
  20. My javelina beatles went out yesterday.
