Fishing Davis lake on a perfect rainy, cool, overcast day with many cooperating fish. This is probably the time you let you guard down as I did. Was rowing way to fast to another location with line hanging out the back. Really trying to avoid hooking up with a fish while trolling when "it finally happened"! A good fish latched on and before I could let go of the oars the entire rod and reel went ripping over the back end of the boat. I tried, in desperation to reverse row as I watched the rod tip disappear into the depths. I can't believe I was this upset over a material possession. And yes, I realize there is no excuse for carelessness. My dear wife rowed while I carefully monitored the side finder and drug a coat hanger arrangement of my idea of a grappling hook to no avail. Should a miracle happen and any of you snag on to this greatly missed fishing assembly I would be glad to offer you a reward and more importantly appreciation for a lost friend.
Make sure to also put a post in the lost and found. So far I've been miraculously lucky with this happening. Three times I've basically jumped through the boat reaching over the side to just catch the rod before it decended into the depths (again I apologize to the people fishing with me on two of those trips for landing in their laps, swamping the boat a bit and otherwise causing heart palpatations). Twice I wasn't so quick, but in both of those cases I ended up with the rods back in fairly short order. Good luck! Ira..
That sucks . Hope you get your outfit back . Scotty rod holders are your friend (I speak from painful experience) .
Ouch! Really sorry to hear that. Maybe you could call someone, who knows someone, and tell them you caught 4 - 20+" fish trolling the bottom with leaded line. Some eager beaver will snag it up for you. There use to be some REALLY BIG hogs in that lake, before they shut the mink farm down.
So were those trout or bass you were having a good day with? how big? I'm heading that way (crane) at the end of the month would be nice to know if the trout fishing is worth it with at davis with all the f-ing large mouth in it. I always troll fast for big fish - no surprise to me but hope you get your outfit back! If you want big fish TROLL FAST!!!
"Catchable" trout that ranged from 12-14" that WDFW planted sometime in May. I am not aware of any bass in the lake but would not be surprised because the lake is less than 2300 ft and is probably near 70 degrees by now. Our temps are going to be approaching 100 degrees by Sunday, so, you might want to think about going higher in elevation. Good luck.
GT, Was that your sign I saw on the board at the launch stating a rod had been lost overboard? I certainly hope you get it back.
sorry to hear bout your luck, but glad I read your post! So many times I've been at the oars wondering if that would happen our even possible. This is where I make a note to self for next time.
Sorry about the rod. I lost my first two weeks ago. I think some are confusing Davis lake WA with Davis lake OR.
