I wasn't planning on fishing today, so I slept in for a change. Looking out the window I saw fog in the tree tops and lots of cloud cover, and I instinctively grabbed a tide chart. It was late in the morning for salmon fishing, but I know a beach near my house that fishes well on an outgoing tide (the place where I landed my first big silver years ago). I grabbed minimal gear and headed out for a quick trip. I didn't reach the beach until nearly 9:00, but the cloud cover held and it was breezy with nobody around. The current wasn't running as I had hoped, but the water was crystal clear with a nice ripple on the surface. A single herring jumped twice about 60 feet out, so I covered the spot with a few casts. I got a hard strike on my clouser and saw a heavy silver flashing at the end of my line. After a good fight, a fat hatchery coho buck slid onto the rocks (weighed in at a little over 6 pounds). I figured this silver was a gift from the salmon gods, so I made my offering of thanks and left for home.

That thing is fat! Nice fish! I didn't get to sleep in or get a fish, but no complaints from me. A weekend to remember!
