Does anyone have any experience with or know if a Lamson Litespeed 3.5 would be sufficiently big enough to handle a 7wt switch rod? I am thinking a Rio AFS 7/8 or an Airflo Compact Skagit 450...

    Thanks.

I use 3.5 lamsons for my 4/5 switch and 5/6 light spey, you'd probably appreciate the extra capacity and better balance of the four for your 7 wt switcher...but the litespeed is pretty big-lookin', maybe a velocity 4 with its slightly smaller diameter would look good on that switcher.
that's what I use on my 7110 Zaxis and it's a nice setup, holds a 7/8 AFS +150 yd of 30# or a 550 skagit with room to spare.
All the Lamsons have the same drag systems...very nice.

I have a 3.5 radius on my 6 wt switch. It is running a skagit 420 spliced to airflo running line. Everything fits on it great with a moderate amount of backing, but be warned, i dont catch fish, so im not sure how sufficient the backing is.

I use that reel on a 5/6 switch. Capacity- or diameter-wise, it might be a hair big for that rod, but it's lighter than most standard 8-weight reels that I would alternatively use. It balances just fine and would probably a fine choice for your 7.

yep it will work, great. got that exact set up but 8wt switch. with a ridge running line you won't be able to fit much more that 100 yaeds of 30lb backing though....but when have you ever needed more than a 100 feet?

I run a 3 on an axis 5110 and a 3.5 on a 7110 they work great and are so light. Stick with the 3.5 I run scandi compacts and skagit lines on them. Have fun

All good answers above. Here is a pic of the spool clearance on a Velocity 3.5 w/ 150yds 50#gsb, 120ft miraclebraid running line, and a Skagit Compact 540gr w/10' t-8.

As you can see, it holds that whole mess with room to spare.

Lamson now has a Litespeed 3.5X spool that you can put on your standard 3.5. I have an Airflo 8/9 Scandi line, running line and 150 yards of 30# backing.
