Sorry if you guys are waiting on me as I haven't had much time to put in on this swap yet. I've unexpectedly had to put in a lot of time at work over the past 3 weeks. :beathead: Anyways I'm on it now and I'm tieing some great looking/fishing orange and black marabous on 1/0 hooks. I got half done last night and hopefully I can get the others done tonight so that my wife can get them in the mail and I can go fish Saturday morning. If she is too busy :hmmm: or crabby  (getting ready/cooking for Superbowl party) then they will go in the mail on Monday. I'll try and post a picture this evening.

Just tagged 'em and sent 'em today. Sorry about the wait, I have had nothing but 16 hours shifts at work lately. I looked at the flies before I sent them today and they could catch, but they aren't as pretty as I would like. I am practicing and getting better. Hope they are lucky for all of you.

I finished mine all up on Friday night. I'm waiting to get back the fly box that I use for swaps back from the Winter Steelhead Swap that had a deadline of Jan 15th and should have returned by now. If it doesn't show up in the mail on Monday I will go get another box to ship them in and definitely get them shipped on Tuesday.

    :hmmm:

Went to Twin Falls ID with Dec H for a club dinner and clinic, Dec was asked to tie for the first part of the clinic. He tied a wet fly, then the start of a prawn then a marabou. It was fun to watch his technique. He takled alot about fishing marabous and how effective they are. He tied a yellow and orange, he said it was his go to color. His slide show was out of this world, I can't wait to get back up north. Keep them coming and thanks.

Marty, how "full" was he tying marabous? Some purport that a more sparse marabou is more effective, at least in moderate to high visibility.

Dec uses a 7999 2/0, said the heavier hook keeps the fly down. He starts the fly at the bend by tying in two feather, butts first. It took him a while to select both feathers, said he was looking for just the right stem. He folded the stem to see if it was going to break before tying it down. He tied in the orange in front of the yellow. After securing the two feathers he palmered the two feathers forward to the eye leaving room for a few turns of wood duck. He said if he can’t make it to the eye with the two feathers he will add more turns with a third feather. He did not fold the fibers for the first few turns but by the time he got to the eye he was folding and pulling everything back. The fly that he tied ended up short so he added a few turns of red in front of the orange and yellow. He said if you can find good marabou two feathers should do it. I used to tie mine way to heavy (they floated) but that was before I found the right marabou. You guys are lucky up there, the shops down here only carry marabou for bugger tails.

He tied in the butt first? Do you mean he tied in the base/thicker part of the feather first, thus wrapping the longer feathers first? This seems different than the norm (or at leasrt what I do). It is hard to find good ones, even in a decent pack.

I used to tie in tips first until Dec told me to try it the other way. By tying the butts in first the longer fibers are enveloped by the shorter fibers as the feathers are palmered forward. This way the fibers at the rear of the fly are not covered by the fibers at the front of the fly. This way when you wrap two feathers of different colors you will see both colors. You do have to have good marabou. Hare Line has the best if you can find it.
