Hi All,
Wasn't quite sure where to post this one so it ended up here. Anyway, I've been playing around dyeing some of my own materials and have been experiencing some frustrations lately with bucktails. I've done maybe a dozen already with decent success but my last two are taking forever to absorb the dye. I don't know if it's the dye or something I'm missing. I currently have two baths going, one is Veniard purple the other is Kingfisher Blue. It's my first time using either of these colors. The recipe is 10 cups of water, 1/8 cup vinegar, 1 teaspoon of dye and one bucktail in each. ....keeping it under 140 degrees
I'm on my second go round with the Kingfisher Blue because the first one didn't work after about 10 hours. I figured maybe I didn't degrease enough so I started over. Soaked it in a gallon of water with a half cup of liquid Joy and some laundry soap for another 2 days. This washed out almost all of the dye from the first bath....
In the mean time the same KF Blue dye bath worked fine on some ostrich plumes. I'm at two hours & counting with the bucktail in the blue and it doesn't seem to be taking the dye any better.
The purple seems to be doing a little better but its still taking much longer than any of the other tails I've dyed. I think I'm at about 7 hrs for this one.
Anyone have a suggestion?
