Picked this up from my previous thread, "A Grim Reminder." The fly club in Eugene used to have an annual prize for the member who brought in the biggest "mono ball". Participants would police up all the left over line and leader and wrap it up for the whole year. Some of these were monsters of epic proportions, which shows just how much of it is discarded . . . ."

A great idea. Wondering if we can pit flyshop against flyshop?

Great idea Leland. I was trying to figure out some kind of bucket to hang at public access areas that people could put the scap line in, but I like your idea better.

One of the little lakes I fish (adopted by a local club) has a 3' section of 4" PVC pipe fitted with a cap at both ends and a slot cut in it near the top. This is mounted to a post from one of the signs near the put-in. Just slide your used mono in the slot, and occasionally someone empties it.

Leland - A contest sounds like a great idea. Flyshop vs Flyshop or even Fly Club vs Fly Club.

One question I have is what do you do with the collected stuff. Is the stuf recyclable?

I know of three lakes in North Cal that use this same system and it seems to work very well.

Thanks Rob that sounds like the ticket. I was trying to think of something that people would not put trash in and the tube will work.

I saw that at one of your local lakes, pretty good idea. Of course, you have to make the effort to walk and actually put the discarded line in the tube.....

I have a local bait lake that I try and walk a couple of time a year to pick up trash & mono.

    Leland!

I brought the idea up to Anil, and Puget Sound Fly Co is in. Consider the gauntlet tossed.

I'm also going to propose this to South Sound Fly Fishers, and we'll be glad to compete with any other club, but we may have to handicap for roster size, there are 75 of us.

What do you think, Christmas week, your shop's accumulation vs whoever else is in?
