Dang, hoping to read of some hot lake fishing. I went to a O.P. foothills lake yesterday, and the surface temp varied between 58 and 61 F, from one end of the lake to the other.

Here's a report: Very tough fishing from 1pm to 6:30pm. After 5pm, there was a chironomid hatch, picking up steam and peaking around 6pm. Small black gnats were all over the place. If they had been mosquitoes, I'd been eaten alive. Tried a #14 black chironomid pupae...nada. got a small bow to hit on a #14 chocolate brown Comparadun, a small cutt on a # 14 Gray Hackle Peacock, both fished on top. Missed a couple other surface takes. Took two fish, a fat 12" stocker bow, and a 7" cutt, on a #10 black sparkle bugger, and missed a couple of hard grabs trolling same bugger. Awesome weather, glassy when we first arrived, and then only light winds. Nice day to be on the water.
