As the title states, I just finished my first MBP and it took a long time.
Can anyone tell me why the first hook is removed?

Well, it's a nice variation but it's not a Miyawaki Beach Popper. What are you calling it?

Most the fish are going to be hooked on the stinger. The gap on the front hook is so small it is pretty much worthless anyway, so just cut it off. Less damage to the fish with only one hook as well.
They fish better in my opinion to without the front hook.

Thanks Stonefish, "less damage to the fish" convinced me. Off it goes.:)

Did you follow the SBS to tie it?

Cutting off the front hook also lightens the fly allowing it to float better.

Yes, but didn't have the recommended materials.
