Just had to post a picture of my new hunting and fishing buddy-she's out of Tiger Mountain Kennels. Looking forward to hunting pheasants over her next fall.

Super cute!! Good move getting a pup early in the year - I got a pup on Feb 1st last year. I've always gotten puppies later in the year (may/june), but I'm so happy I got a winter pup this time around. Having an extra few months of training time paid off big time during hunting season. Not just bird-wise, but she was just so much more prepared to learn on the job than a 5-6 month old would.

If you're looking for training materials, I highly recommend Evan Graham's SmartWork series.

Just thought I'd post a braggin update-we picked up our pup this Saturday after her month of "puppy head start" training at Tiger Mountain Kennels-Great to get her back-can't believe how much I missed the little lady. She is birdy as heck, couldn't be happier. Took her out to Cooke Canyon for her first chukar hunt--pointed 5 of the 7 chukars we had planted (the other 2 were my mistake-didn't get to them before the hawks apparently did). Retrieved to hand the 2 I actually shot (should have hit the trap range with the steel shot-it does shot a bit differently than the lead I am used to).

Enough bragging-looking forward to a great upland bird season (and maybe a few ducks as well). Updated photo attached.

I am currently dog free, and loving it. But, seeing these dog pics on this and another thread below is pretty enticing. I (we) lost a lab a year ago, and a Beagle 5 months ago. Liz and the girls are working on me to get another dog. Eventually they will win. I will let them.
