I just finished final dipping last night on this 7'11" Montague project rod. This was originally an 8.5' Monty that was very beat up. Completely stripped, sawed off the bottom 1/2 foot, heat-straightened the tips, reset the reel seat, added new cork, re-wrapped and finally varnished. Turned out OK. Still on a learning curve with these so could be better. I'm hoping to bring it to the bamboo gathering on the 26th (is the gathering still in the works?). I'll be putting a 7 weight on it. Not exactly a delicate rod, by any means, but the shorter length makes it much lighter to handle and it's a somewhat fast action stick . A fun experiment/project.

    I agree, well done.
I notice the same thing with my companion rods. The shorter butt will gravitate towards a faster action.
