Hi there my rainy coast bretheren. Here is another report from the Right coast. Went out to the Newfound river in New Hampshire today with a friend of mine Kyle. The river runs out of the Newfound Lake and several miles downstream dumping into the Pemmigewassit river. You can find rainbows, landlocked atlantic salmon, and laketrout in the river. There is a damn that divides the river from the lake and many times fish spill over getting stuck in the river.

Today, Kyle and I met up just below the damn at 11am and started working a nice minivan size pool just below the big pool under the damn. Kyle was swinging a size 8 wooliebugger black with a size 14 prince nymph as a dropper. I laughed at him for working the same water for half and hour while I worked the tailout of the damn pool. Well, God laughed at me. Kyle hooked a chunk of a rainbow. After pulling him down river in the swift current just the other side of the hole and me running to the car for my net that I did not think I was going to need. Kyle landed a very nice 20 something inch attack dog. The bow was very nicely colored and I thought it was tired from the extended fight. I was wrong again. As soon as Kyle tailed it to revive the beast it shot like a rocket across the river.

After this we decided to head down to the next hole and give it a run. Upon arriving at the pool we notice a very nice bow sitting in the tailout. I moved in and worked the fish for about 20 minutes until my toes were too cold to stay in the water. Then it was Kyles turn. Well bad things come in threes right. After playing sight fishing guide to Kyle for 10 minutes or so I see the fish turn for his fly. Before I can get the words out of my mouth that he's comming Kyle says damn I'm hooked on the bottom. He gives his pole a jerk and whammo fish on. The fish immediately headed for the fast water just below the pool. I saw it roll and immediatly knew it was foul hooked. Kyle had hooked the fish just about in the ass. I immediatly start running down stream to get ahead of the fish with the net which by the way stayed with us after the last fish. Kyle worked the fish downstream toward me. Just as I was getting ready to net the fish it rolled one more time and the hook slipped. Not before I got a real good look at a very nice bow. This bow was colored very brown though almost like a brown.

After all of that excitement the fishing slowed way down and we spent the rest of the day slapping the water. I did however get to meet a great guy though. The local fly shop is run by this guy by the name of Chris. He is about 70 and smokes like a chimney. As we came in to his garage converted to fly shop, I immediatly noticed that the smell of smoke was overpowering. I bet a blind man could be fooled into thinking this place was a bar. Chris was on his I don't know how manyith rum and coke (more rum than coke). We spent about two hours shooting the bull with Chris and drinking a couple millers before I bought some stuff and we said goodbye.

So that was my fishing report for today. Oh yeah and I do have a couple pics for your visually inclined individuals, like me.
