The gun used in the Wisconsin killings was legal all through the "assault weapons ban." The same damage could have been done with a less ominous looking rifle too. The SKS used is no more powerful than standard deer hunting rifles. In fact, the round it fires is a little more tame than most. The 20 round magazine could have been replaced by quick reloading as more members of the other hunting party arrived. The guns are here by the millions. It would be impossible to get rid of them.
