Yes!! Finally a reason to get back on the Sonics bandwagon...

in a related note: Portland gets #1 and Oden

I love the new rule that players must play 1 year in college. We finally get some draft luck!

Yes, this is so awesome! I was listening on the radio after just getting into my car and screaming they did not get the 3rd pick.

If the Soup's leave it will be too bad, no matter what draft position they have.

Well if Wally Walker was still here the Sonics would trade down and shower to us the praises of their research and our new 2007 draft pick...some unheard 6-11 Estonian project, Mesticka Eupsassa, who averages 11 points and 9 rebounds in an eastern european development league.

    Not this time! :thumb:

Fly Fishers for the Seattle SuperSonics. I'm totally stoked about Kevin Durant. Finally some good news. Keep our teams here by joining saveoursonics.org and keep talking about the team.

So true!! Why don't we draft all 7Ft project players from Europe!
1998- Vlad Stepania-the Rashard Lewis in 2nd round just ahead of Jerome James and Shammond Wiliams!!! Ha!
    1999- Corey Magette-traded...
2000- Des Mason-- not bad in trade for Ray Allen
2001 Vlad radmanovic #12 Tony Parker picked 28th...
2002- no 1st round pick...2nd round- Peter ?? from Germany??
2003 Luke Ridnour ahead of Boris Diaw
2004 Robert Swift, Horrible draft and a player who hasn't done anything
    and Andre Emmett?????? MIA?
    2005-Johan Petro-project 7Ft euro...
    2006 Saer Sene--See above

Finally a chance to get better in the crapshoot that is the NBA Draft:)

I think the jury is still out on Robert Swift. He started to play well at the end of the season 2 years ago, and ended up blowing out his ACL in the preseason this year.... The guy was only just barely 18, and was already a reasonably good shot blocker, and actually had the balls to try to dunk it every once in a while. Let's see what some time, weight and experiece does for this guy. Remeber, Jermaine ONeal was looking like a bust well into his 4th year.

As for Boris, he's a product of a system that can use his talents. In Seattle, he wouldn't be doing what he's doing in Phx, so it's tough to compare....

I am with you James,it's tough to rule out Swift yet. The 04 draft was tough. Not many players from that year are playing a lot:I am looking forward to seeing him develop!
Plus he has some tattoos and put on some lbs!!

here is the top 20 from 04-pretty thin:!
    01. Orlando Dwight Howard SW Atlanta Christian Academy (Ga.)
    02. Charlotte Emeka Okafor UCONN
    03. Chicago Ben Gordon UCONN
    04. L.A. Clippers Shaun Livingston Peoria Central HS (Ill.)
    05. Washington Devin Harris Wisconsin
    06. Atlanta Josh Childress Stanford
    07. Phoenix Loul Deng Duke
    08. Toronto Rafeal Arajuo BYU
    09. Philadelphia Andre Iguodala Arizona
    10. Cleveland Luke Jackson Oregon
    11. Golden State Andris Biedrins Latvia
    12. Seattle Robert Swift Bakersfield HS (Calif.)
    13. Portland Sebastian Telfair Abraham Lincoln HS (N.Y.)
    14. Utah Kris Humpries Minnesota
    15. Boston Al Jefferson Prentiss HS (Miss.)
    16. Utah Kirk Snyder Nevada
    17. Atlanta Josh Smith Oak Hill Academy (Va.)
    18. New Orleans JR Smith St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.)

I think it is safer to have the #2, than the #1. You won't be second guessed if one turns out better than the other. I don't think Oden is lock for portland, they could go either way, Aldridge at center, and durant at small forward with Roy would give them a nice athletic core. If they take Oden I think they will be getting rid of Randolph. Boy both combo's look pretty good though.

Based on the top 20 you can only state that Al Jefferson and JR Smith are better players right now. Jameer Nelson is a dime a dozen point guard in the league, and let's not even get started on Sebastian Telfair.... With Jefferson it was a gamble as he was a high schooler with a weight problem, and JR Smith was athletic as hell but raw.... In addition, Swift was worked out by Boston prior to the draft, and rumor has it in a scrimmage with the C's starters he had a series were he blocked a shot 3 straight times down the court, the last coming on Paul Pierce on a dunk attempt....

Ha- Sebastian Telefair! Have you seen the documentary...wild!

I do hope Swift moves forward in the progress. I do like Josh Smith, however, like most players in Atlanta, he is hopelessly buried beneath bad coaching and worse management. After looking down the list again, I realize what a thin draft that was. James, maybe if you look at the 2nd round, can you see any players still in the league except Anderson Varejao??
If Portland doesn't take Oden....it will be Sam Bowie v. Michael Jordan all over again. Aldridge may not be healthy again and nate loves defense first and a shot blocking big man is perfect!
Oh well.. our gain if not!!

Now....who will coach? Van Gundy, Ivaroni from phoenix? Sikma? My Uncle Joe who coached YMCA?...

I'm a huge fan of Rick Carlise coming in and coaching. He's a control freak, but I think a veteran team like the Sonics can manage. He'd definately get Luke playing better, and the big men wouldn't be quite the same push overs they currently are.

Other than that, I wished Nate had never left... He's a no nonsense coach who says how it is and follows through with what he says.

    Totally forgot about Carlisle.
he had a pretty mediocre Pacers team in the playoffs most years. Maybe he can help Swift become more like Jermaine O'Neal and light a fire under Luke. I love Luke as a player, but seeing earl watson playing a ton in the 4th quarter makes me wonder...carlisle would be good!

that being said...I miss Nate. Look for the Blazers to be much much better very soon...
They will add by subtracting randolph and J. Jack.
My dream would be to see Z randolph on the Knicks. marbury, Nate R, Francis, Crawford and randolph...there aren't enough posessions in a game for all those guys to get enough shots!! They'll need more basketballs!

    Robert Swift=new generation Rik Smits!!

"Gary Paton with the hippity hop dribble into the lane, skips a pass out side to Sam Perkins, Big Smooth handles it like a grapefruit, thinks about the three, fires it down low to Shaun Kemp, he makes a move to the basket. Get on your magic carpet and ride baby ride, Kemp with the Tomahawk Jam!"

    Now that was basketball!

I could probably spend an hour or two typing out a long post on the sonics, and kevin durant, as many of you know. But instead, im just gonna say that guy better learn to play some defense

I hate to disagree Rory, but Durant averaged 11.1 rebounds in 35.9 minutes, according to ESPN.com. That's 12.37 rebounds per 40 minutes. Not bad...and Texas as a team was pretty good defensively.
Durant had 1.9 blocks per game in the Big 10, but ultimately he is a 6'9" GUARD/Fw.
If my grandmother put up 25 and 11 everynight...she would go #2

Defense??? Are we talkin 'bout defense (Channeling AI) Defense??

The man has the wingspan of a 7' player...think a supersized version of Tayshaun Prince...

    Defense...really?

When we didn't get the third pick I started jumping around the living room. Then I realized that Portland has our coach and the best young talent in the NBA (well, maybe Chicago)... and the 1st pick... and they're in our division.

One player isn't going to fix the Sonics. We're still in the West. The West is still the best. Maybe we can trade Robert Swift (who sucks) and the 2nd pick for the 1st pick and FINALLY get a center. Then we can send Petro and Sene back home where soft big men might actually help a basketball team win games.

And a final thought: at least we're not the Celtics. Luck of the Irish my ass.bawling:
