Since some of you are complaining about fishing being slow I have a question for you. I will be spending a week on the OP next month. Beside fishing I also like to eat and sample the areas great beers. What are some of the must eat at restaurants or small burger joints? I will be on the Hood Canal side. I really enjoy a good craft beer or brew pub type place.
Well, depends where you'll be exactly. Poulsbo has several breweries. You also have Port Angeles/Sequim, which I can't recommend the Alder Street Bistro nearly enough. Incredible food, and great craft beers available. PA also has Peaks Pub, an unassuming looking brewery/bar that makes a few good brews.
Ask Mumbles for the names.....great little burger joint in Port Angeles and the diner in forks has killer biscuits and gravy.
The Geoduck Tavern next to Dosewallips State Park. Reasonable priced deluxe burger is about 7" in diameter! Nice place to have a beer, enjoy the view.
Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to have to do the tourist thing with family for some of the time. Hopefully we can get to a couple of these places. I told the wife I am taking one day and doing nothing but fishing and her and her sister can do whatever they want. The rest of the time I will probably be saying, "This looks like a good beach, let me out here and come back in an hour or two." I know it will depend on the tides but I am hoping to get a fair amount of time on the beaches.
You should be sure to stop in at the Silver City brewpub (well, they just recently moved the brewery off site) in Silverdale. Hales also has a restaurant in Silverdale, but you can get Hales anywhere and the food is better at Silver City. The Hood Canal Brewery has a tasting room outside of Kingston. There is a brewpub in Port Townsend, too, but I've never been there.
The Forks Coffee House has good breakfasts. If attempting biscuits and gravy, I would suggest the half order, as the full order weighs as much as a mid-size dog and is beyond filling. Never been impressed at The In Place
Along with what the others have said, Port Townsend is a necessary stop on the peninsula! Fishing in the area and a great little downtown! Lots of little cafes, bars, ect along with the Port Townsend Brewery. I would HIGHLY recommend the Hudson Point Cafe in PT. Best breakfast I've ever had anywhere! Fat Smitty's (Discovery Bay) has a famous huge burger and great milkshakes (downside is they have no beer). Now I'm hungry...
Very sound advice on the "half portion" of B/G! I had fogotten it was delivered to the table in a 5gal. bucket!
If you are in PA the CornerHouse has great food, and some beer. Nextdoor Gastro Pub has EXCELLENT food and they rotate their taps with some great beer. The Brewhouse on Laurel brews their own beer, no food. Peaks has some great beer, their food leaves a lot to be desired.
If you can make it to Port Townsend go to the Port Townsend brewery. It used to be downtown, but is now in the new Marina. Good brews still though. They also have decent bar food. There is a restaurant downtown called "Fins" that is my favorite. A good view and you can eat outside if you want. If you are there on a Saturday, go to the farmers market and just eat what's available. Always a fun time. And while you are there you should run over to Marrowstone island and fish the beaches in Fort Flagler state park. Good for searuns off the spit by the campground and possibly some bigger fish down by the lighthouse. There are some nice places to stay in PT too.
Micheals seafood and steakhouse in Port Angeles is a must if you are looking for great food on the peninsula. Amazing free range steaks and fresh seafood. All of there seasonal produce comes from Nashes organic farm in Sequim. They have a great wine list, local beer on tap and a drink menu that rivals any posh craft bar in the big city. Also Wildfire for wood fire pizza and Sabia thai for some of the best thai food in the state. Oh and did i mention the fishing. Try Fresh Water Bay out. Good luck!
For breakfast stop in at the Oak Table in Sequim. Bring your appetite! In PA Cafe Garden is good if the head cook Johnny is working. Worked there thru high school. Not sure if its still there but Togas, past Albertsons as you're heading west out of town used to be phenomenal
There is no Tavern in beaver. If you are talking about the Hungry Bear. I say just keep driving. Lake crescent lodge has great food. The gastro pub in PA is good also wildfire grill is very good. For breakfast in Port Angeles I like the Plunkin Shack. f
