To the few that live around me and fish the local lakes, where will you be heading on opening day? I haven't figured it out yet. Kinda wanting to go somewhere unusual and out of the way/ off the beaten path. But I might just stick to my norm, which is a secret. McMurray is usually a mess of bait fishermen, but it might work out. Sixteen also a possibilty. Please share!

If you're planning on fishing opening day you'd better think "parking" as your priority. That's usually the challenge on opening weekend. In my experience, afternoons and evenings are best that weekend. There's a huge (did I say HUGE?) rush from the wee hours of the morning till early afternoon, after that it dies down to a dull roar. Some lakes just don't have parking for crowds. Ya' wanna see a parking nightmare just hit Lk Sixteen opening day about 9am.

I head nowhere near any of the lakes that open on the general April opening day. There are lakes open all year and others that open early. No reason to waste time battling crowds on that last Sat. in April.

I will be at home watching baseball and working around the house. If I do make it to a lake it will be with camera in hand to record some of the action at the launch. No fishing what so ever.

Not really. I've been out on opening day when it rained, snowed, and hailed. And still they came. They have to catch those hatchery trout before they are all gone. So that's where the crowds come from. Hell, even some of the lakes that are open year around get hammered on opening day.

It sounds like you haven't fished here very long.

Or they were open all year.... So, why hit them on the opener?

There are much better places to be on the general opener.

    SB22:

Look at the recent posts for where people have fished and take a look at the regs, if not listed with special dates, open all year.

    Pretty simple. Not many secrets.
