Can anyone tell me why the Pilchuck river is closed except for the Dec 1 thru Feb 28th time frame? It looks like a beautiful river and it was perplexing to me to see that it's close most of the year.

I've never verified this, but I was always under the impression that it was to protect stocks of summer-run fish during the periods of warmer, lower water. It's a small stream that could very easily be exploited for a number of reasons.
