I'm pretty sure the Mukilteo boat ramp could be described as hellish

A lifelong friend of mine did a photo project on places in the west with Hell, Devil or Satan in the name. I think he identified and photographed over 50 places all over the west. Many of them are quite remote. Most of them are published in his most recent book, Pictures of Hell, will be published by Ram Publications and Alaska Press in Fall 2014..

Hell's Gate Canyon on the lower Rogue River. A lot of people get pretty jacked up down there in rafts and jet boats.

The Devil's Elbow on the San Poil used to be my favorite stretch to float and fish.

And then there is HELL, MICHGAN.

Don't know why it got that name. Pretty little town.

Just yesterday I was recalling the time a buddy and I climbed a 10,000-foot + peak in the Pioneer Mts., east of Sun Valley, Idaho, and got separated on the way down. Its name is the Devil's Bedstead.

Forgot about that one, Jim. Or maybe I just erased it from memory . . . I sheared-off a hub on a Chev 4x4 in there back in the late 60's; it was a long walk out & a painfully-ugly repair task.
