I've got a theory I've shared here before and will share again. If the older generation understands the younger generation's music, style or slang than the younger generation is doing it wrong.

Puffy jackets and wide brimmed hats look ridiculous together. Everyone who is anyone knows you only wear fedoras with puffy jackets while flyfishing.

And before puffy jackets, Eddie Bauer sold tennis racquets, shuttlecocks and fishing rods.

Apparently I missed those threads. But seriously? I'm far from being young or hip, but during cold, rainy conditions I wear a flat-brimmed Filson tin-cloth Bush hat and a modern Sierra Designs DriDown Gnar puffy jacket (i.e., the down insulation is treated so it is water repellent -- makes if work like synthetic fill when wet, while still retaining the light and compactible characteristics of down).

Screw "Young and Hip" -- I go for "functional and warm" whenever possible!

I've got a down vest that is pretty puffy I found at the REI garage sale for $17 and a knockoff patagucci jacket that isn't nearly as puffy. Both keep me warm, which is my main goal and reason for wearing them.

The only reason I don't own any flat brim hats is because my wife thinks I look like silly in them. Given that "silly" outfits don't really end up with me getting laid, I tend to listen to her opinions on the subject.

Look we should not discriminate against those that wear flat brimmed hats, its simply a sign of immaturity, in a young male. inside each one, is a Man crying to get out. we should not critisize but try and understand. its simply a disability.:)

Are flat brimmed hats a greater sign of immaturity than judging someone by their attire or no?

I'm not sure about that, but capitalizing the word "man" in the same sentence as the word "crying" is code for "Fabulous". Either that or gearhead is really, really into Barbara Streisand.

Shit, I've seen so many styles come and go and I don't really give a shit who wears what. I wear what I put on in the morning and it has no puffy coat or a flat brimmed hat to it.

And I did get out today. Three casts and a lost set-up to the bottom. I said to hell with it and went for a drive instead. I lost 4 bucks in flies. Sob

I have no idea what the hell you guys are talking about. I feel like I'm in an episode of The Twilight Zone! And I broke my glasses.

If you're on the water and are more worried about what other guys are wearing than the fish you should be catching, I do believe your priorities are out of whack.

Really? People care about how fly fishers dress? I guess I'd better stow the puffy jacket and "Indiana Jones" hat. The hat did a great job keeping the sun off and the jacket has kept me warm all winter. I guess I'll freeze and get skin cancer just to please the bashers, right?

Given his (mis)use of punctuation and capitalization I don't think you can draw any conclusions from those 'sentences'

If I was to worry about the the way people look I would never have met some of my best friends.
