This vid was posted on our local board. This is one monster trout, but the feature is the fly! Some of you Evergreen Experts probably can identify the water. Also, this is a good channel for fish vids. Have a look at 3 fish in 3 casts. No idea where that river is but I'd sure like to fish it!

If standing on a concrete wall and stroking hatchery zombies that have been caught a dozen times is your thing, then it's absolutely worth it!

Sorry, I don't know anything;-) I'm trying to cobble together a Washington trip for the summer, and trying to figure out what, where, and how. I'm pretty sure you're not a shill for the RF Chamber of Commerce so maybe not this one.

I grew up a few miles from that place. Lost interest in it when I was about 12.

I contacted that shop when I first saw the vid and got some info on the fly. He said it cost him a bit of money to make and he would never make them to sell. If I recall correctly he was going to release the pattern, but it looks like his website is experiencing issues. Very cool none the less.

    This is not new news.
I have met guys fishing big bunny/snake flies out at RF many years ago.
I've got a couple in my box, I hardly use. Scuds work better.
This really happened and it was pretty damn cool to watch.
I was just on the other side of the creek where the vid was shot and scared a small snake into the water. A 6 plus lb. fish grabbed it and a 1/2 dozen others swam after it.
I never saw the snake again.

I was there when Matt tied the fly. He and I each tied our own version, mine with tan bunny strips instead of deer hair and a foam head instead of deer. This WAS supposed to be a secret, but I guess those are now few and far between in this community. Glad you finally got your fish Matt...

Pretty cool! However, if I ever met a live-bait guy fishing the real thing somewhere I'd call him "Sir" . . . and leave . . . quickly, lol.

I'd use a little garter snake and tie a fake rattle on him.

I tied these a while back We had a thread going on the subject a while, but I was too lazy to dig for it. And we didn't even drum up who the tier was or the materials for the fly so this thread is already more informative on the subject.
I want to take the flies to somewhere like owyhee or somewhere with some wild trout IMG_4568.JPG

Many years ago at a lake in the Winthrop area I ran into a kid of about 10 who was catching fish hand over fist while no one else was doing any good. I asked him what he was using - "Oh these little stinging worms" and he proceded to show ma a can full of baby rattlesnakes. I asked how many times he had been stung - "Oh just a couple" , I quickly found his mother & had her take him to the hospital. Never did find out the outcome.

    Bob,

I was that kid... thanks for saving my life....

Seriously, I've been hearing that story since I was 10 years old.

    The locations always change...

Is it still fly fishing if you hook a live rattlesnake to a hook and fish it?

Hooking a live rattlesnake to a fly line is called a trip to the laundrymat
    rather than fishing.

Watching the video this morning, I have to say, that fish is a HOG!
Mean looking critter too. I guess when you live with rattlesnakes,
    you have to be tough.
