Too early to even guess at a revised forecast yet, no one ever catches the bulk till the middle of August, and it's not a particularily logn run; pinks come through in a bulk traffic jam run.
I was here watching the Skagit in '07. The Skagit wasn't hit very bad during '07. Nothing that would be called "massive floods". And nothing that pink salmon or chum salmon haven't seen in the past few thousands of years in which they seemed to have been able to successfully survive. Some of the forcasting on the Skagit is done using out migrating parr count trapped in a fish wheel located on the lower river. From past experience it seems to be somewhat accurate.
From Olson's Resort website at Sekiu. Fishing Update, July 26, 2009… By Webmaster Angelers has been successful, from 6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. there were 38 boats in and 21 KINGS, 47 SILVERS, 32 HUMPIES per the fish checker this morning. Bottom fish has also been very successful, fishing West of Sekiu hitting the kelp beds all the way to Eagle Point. Also been getting Dungeness crab at Pillar Point… BRING YOUR CRAB POTS……
Done. There are a few early pods going through now, but the fish are small 1.5- 2.5 lbs, and very few. Another 3 weeks ought to do it.
Heck MAT... you should be able to get a few before you leave. There are some being caught here on Whidbey Island in a few places that I know of. Not the heat of the run, but there are fish showing. Gary
You'll be in the middle of them pretty quick. They show up on the West side of MA 9 about 2 weeks before the East side, MA 8-2 or 8-1 see any good numbers. Hit the beaches early and late; it will be a good send off for you.
