I just bought the BVK 10ft 5wt about a month ago. Within the 2nd time of using it I somehow broke the 3rd section while trying to unsnag my fly that was caught on something. The section broke into 4 little pieces, I have never had that happened to me before. I sent it back to TFO with the $25 and it was promptly returned fixed. Now 2 weeks later I broke the 3rd section again over this past weekend by barely bending it to untangle the line. This time it broke at one of the line guides. I am very frustrated that this happened AGAIN. I own 3 other TFO rods, a pro series, sig series, and an axiom. I have fished them all hard for multiple years and I have never had any issues with them like I have with the BVK. I really do like the BVK a lot and I am willing to keep using it once it's repaired. Has anyone else had these issues with the BVK? Should I complain to TFO about it or just pay the $25 for it to be repaired again and go on my merry way? Any thoughts?

    Thanks

I have 7wt BVK and have had no problems.

I would definitely let TFO know so they can do some quality control.

I would at least give them a call about it. They might even waive the repair fee.

I have a friend who has a 10' 6wt BVK. He hasn't had a problem with it. I have fished it and really enjoyed it so I can understand why you'd want to keep it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. TFO has been great! They have waived the repair fee and have offered me another model. I decided to take them up on a different rod but staying with the same model and I am going with the BVK 10ft 6wt.

    Thanks,

    Something for you . . .

Periodically check your ferrules to make they are snug. With 4 piece rods, it doesn't take long for a ferrule to loosen. This seems to happen a lot at that piece of the rod you are referncing. The stress (via load) when bending the rod is now no longer distributed evenly. This will break the blank quickly and easily, and leave you wondering what happened. Been there, done that, a couple of times before I learned this, and I haven't had that problem since.

    Good luck.
